Ron Scharffenorth served 18 years as a Cape Town firefighter, responding to emergencies where preparation (or lack of it) made the difference between loss and survival.

He then spent more than 20 years leading safety operations in the Middle East for one of the world’s largest oil and gas companies, managing crisis response systems and large-scale international safety protocols in high-risk environments.

Turning experience into innovation

Returning to South Africa, Ron identified a recurring residential vulnerability in his Cape West Coast town: aluminium window glass being silently removed during burglaries. To a safety professional, this wasn’t just a crime trend. It was an unaddressed weak point.

Determined to engineer a solution, he invented and patented Windogripper, South Africa’s DIY window security solution. This tough, reliable window security device has been designed to stop this common burglary technique in its tracks. After rigorous testing and successfully foiling several attempted burglaries at real homes, Windogripper quickly built trust, and now protects thousands of homes across South Africa.
