How common is glass removal as a break-in method?

More common than most people realise. In fact, nearly 80% of customers who install Windogripper have either experienced a break-in, or a nearby incident, where the glass was removed to gain entry.

Do I need to secure every window?

No. Start with the most vulnerable:

  • rear and side windows
  • ground-floor access points
  • windows with removable external beading

You can always add more over time.

 

Does it actually stop break-ins?

Yes. There have been real cases where burglars removed the outer trims but couldn’t get the glass out. In one instance in Langebaan, the external trims were removed, but the glass stayed in place. That’s exactly what Windogripper is designed to do. If the glass stays in place, the entry point is closed.

 

Can Windogripper be removed from the outside?

No. It’s installed on the inside corners of the glass, making it inaccessible from the outside.

Can Windogrippers be used on my wooden window frames?

Not in its standard form. Most break-ins target aluminium windows because the glass can be removed quietly. Wooden frames are typically noisier and harder to access. Windogripper is designed specifically for the aluminium vulnerability.

 

Can Windogrippers be used effectively on folding, stacker and sliding doors?

Absolutely. For folding or stacker doors, you’ll need one Windogripper in each corner of the glass panel. Large sliding doors require a bit more support – typically three Windogrippers: one in each corner and one in the center (top and bottom) for added security and stability.

 

Why not just use pop rivets or silicone to secure the glass?

They seem like quick fixes, but they have real drawbacks.

  • Rivets can be knocked off or require drilling into the frame
  • Silicone requires removing and reinstalling the glass
  • Both can damage the frame or look untidy over time
